Introducing WAKEM

Andrew Wakem has worked for no less than three internationally-renowned AJ100 practices. His efforts ensured their respective historic and remarkable contributions to the industry were not only celebrated but remained at the forefront of public conversation.

During his time at Foster + Partners, Andrew grew their social following to surpass one million followers. He achieved this milestone through creative social media campaigns showcasing the practice’s working environment, diverse communities and specialities within architecture, design and structural engineering. He also led award submissions with inclusivity in mind, representing people and projects across Foster + Partners' international studios.

Conran and Partners was a creative time for Andrew, it saw the launch of the practices’ new website which he managed and guided from an initial sketch, through to development and publishing. Andrew initiated a new vision for the website, which saw a clear division of the studio's services between architecture and interior design – an accurate representation of the organisation of the practice – translated to the screen. Andrew was promoted from Marketing Manager to Head of Communications and tripled his team within eight months.

Andrew’s time as the PR & Communications Manager at Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) saw the introduction of the practice's first brand guidelines to increase their followers and PR outreach simultaneously. The guidelines were to replace sporadic design and tone-of-voice choices with consistent branding and direction.

Andrew has freelanced as a Brand Coach for a number of start-ups. His career began by creating a new brand and marketing campaign for a small entertainment company that won a contract to work with Disney in Florida. He also worked on a product launch for a new handbag in The May Fair Hotel. During lockdown, Andrew launched a new restaurants’ website and social media branding.

A highlight of Andrew’s career was working with comedienne Helen Lederer (best known for her role as Catriona in Absolutely Fabulous) on launching her inaugural awards that celebrate ‘Comedy Women in Print’ (CWIP). Here, Andrew designed the website, sponsorship documents and event collateral. CWIP is now in its fourth successful year, with one of its shortlisted books now a Paramount TV series called  ‘The Flatshare’.

Andrew very kindly offered to help curate and design a website that would serve my literary prize ' Comedy Women in Print' for a multitude of purposes and designed it in such a way that it had both a look and excellent design features for others to use and take forward. A real legacy - Helen Lederer

Andrew holds a BA (Hons) in Interior Architecture and design from Middlesex University, London.
